ST HELENS Town’s resurgence continued to gather pace after another dramatic comeback, this time away at a cold and wet Anchor Ground, winning 3-2 against AFC Darwen.

Less than a couple of miles away from where Lancastrian giants Blackburn Rovers and Preston North End had a derby to settle at Ewood Park, there was plenty of North West Counties drama to be had down at Anchor Road.

For the second week running Town found themselves 2-0 down, with Leon Creech grabbing both goals for the home side.

Town however dominated the second half and goals from impressive new signings Elliott Hughes and Ben Cartwright drew Town level.

The Blues thought they’d gone ahead before the linesman’s flag denied what would have been a well-deserved lead.

The winner however did come in injury time when Jamie Apperley finished off a flowing move to give Town maximum points.

Manager David Platt said: “Two wins on the bounce now and two similar come backs, but two very different performances.

"Last week we felt we put a good 90 minutes together while this week the first half was very lacklustre.

"We came out second half like a different team though and controlled the game well.

"Darwen are always a danger on the counter but once we got one goal momentum was with us and we produced another great late win.“

Town next face Bradford based club Campion AFC at Ruskin Park this Saturday 3pm for their last home fixture of 2021.
