ST HELENS' drive in cinema has been closed to the public because of the windy weather, the council has confirmed.

Due to high winds, the Council have cancelled the showing of The Polar Express at the outdoor cinema tonight (December 4).

The drive in cinema, located at the site of the former multi-storey car park on Chalon Way, is part of the council's Christmas strategy to offer more festive events and bring more residents into the town centre.

The drive in cinema started with a screening of The Greatest Showman on November 20, and a festive film was planned each Saturday until Christmas.

However, with the windy weather and concerns over safety, the council have decided to cancel tonight's screening.

Those with tickets for tonight's screenings will be refunded or transferred to another showing - with an email explaining this sent to customers.

The council have apologised for the inconvenience and screenings for Home Alone on December 11 and Elf on December 18 are still planned to go ahead at present.
