A serious accident has closed part of the M62 this morning (Pic: Highways England)
POLICE closed the M62 between junction eight and junction nine this morning due to a "serious incident".
The incident occurred around 7am between junction nine at Newton Road in Winwick and junction eight leading to Burtonwood.
Emergency services were called to the scene on the westbound carriageway and there were reports of heavy congestion up to the Croft interchange.
Police advised drivers to find an alternative route if possible.
The road remained closed for six hours for police investigation work and reopened at 12.40pm.
