A MAN has been charged with robbery after towels were stolen from a Matalan store and a member of staff was assaulted.

Officers arrested a man after a report of towels reportedly being stolen from the Matalan store on Watts Clift Way St Helens at around 11.45am on Thursday, November 11.

The man also allegedly assaulted a member of staff.

Anthony Arthur Halliwell, of Phoenix Brow in St Helens, has been charged with common assault and robbery in connection with the incident.

Halliwell, 25, was due to appear at Wirral Adult Remand Court on the morning of Friday, November 26 and remains in custody.
