DETECTIVES are continuing to investigate a "shocking" stabbing attack which saw a man targeted by four thugs.

As reported yesterday, the victim, aged in his 30s, was set upon by the group in Sunners Green Close in Parr.

He suffered several stab wounds and was taken to hospital.

He is in a serious but stable condition, say police.

The attack happened at about 4.50pm on Tuesday. It is reported the thugs fled in the direction of Fleet Lane.

The police investigation has been continuing, with officers carrying out house-to-house, witness and CCTV enquiries.

No arrests have been made at this stage, according to police.

Detectives have said it appears to have been a targeted incident but have not said at this stage whether they have established a motive.

Detective Inspector Neil Dillon urged anyone with information to come forward.

He said: “We are carrying out extensive enquiries in the area and we are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information that can help with our enquiries.

“We will be doing all we can to find the people responsible and bring them to justice, and we’ll take positive action to remove those who use weapons to cause fear and harm in our communities from our streets.

“The use of weapons is reckless and intolerable, and can have devastating consequences not only for the victim and their family but also the offenders.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact police via their social media desk via Twitter @MerPolCC or Facebook ‘Merseyside Police Contact Centre’ with reference 21000815338.
