A MAN remains in a critical condition after being hit by a vehicle on the East Lancashire Road last week.

The A580 East Lancs was closed for several hours following the incident last Thursday morning, November 18.

At around 5.25am emergency services were called to a report of a collision on the East Lancashire Road near the junction of Green Leach Lane. The driver stopped at the scene and assisted officers with their enquiries. 

A Merseyside Police spokeswoman has said today (Tuesday, November 23) that the pedestrian, who was hit by a black Ford Kuga, "remains in a critical condition".

The closure went up to Windle Island and also affected traffic heading from Liverpool towards the M6.

After the incident, Merseyside Police said: "At around 5.25am emergency services were called to a report of a collision on the East Lancashire Road near the junction of Green Leach Lane.

"The driver stopped at the scene and is assisting officers with their inquiries. 

We are appealing for any witnesses, CCTV and dash camera footage which may assist the investigation."
