A FRAUDSTER who paid for dozens of Nike products by using a gift card scam must pay back more than £8,000 in compensation.
Ryan Battershell, from West Swindon, indicated a plea of guilty to one charge of fraud at Swindon Magistrates' Court.
The 20-year-old received an 18-week prison sentence which has been suspended for 15 months.
During those 15 months, he must carry out 300 hours of unpaid work and comply with rehabilitation activity requirements - and pay £8,282 in compensation.
The prison sentence will be activated if he is found guilty of another crime during the suspension period.
He used dead accounts to transfer false refunds onto 65 Nike gift cards, then used those gift cards to complete 120 transactions on Nike.com and at in-store branches on a number of different occasions between February 2019 and June 2021 in Swindon.
