A TALENTED bunch of cheerleaders won the incredible opportunity to perform live on Blue Peter last night, as part of a fundraising campaign for Children In Need.

Saints Elite Cheerleaders, based at St Helens Centre for Gymnastics, sent the BBC a showreel of what they can do and were picked as the only cheerleading group from the North West to perform live on the Blue Peter show.

The girls, aged from 8 to 15, trained for three weeks to put together a "fantastic routine" to showcase their talents. They then spent all day rehearsing their show with presenters at the BBC Studios in Salford Quays yesterday.

Part of a fundraising campaign in the build up to Children in Need - which airs on BBC One tonight at 7pm - the girls performed a two-minute choreographed cheerleading routine which was broadcast live to the nation.

Kerrie Severs, part of a two-woman coaching team for the group, said: "They all did amazing. They did it all live on telly and we're just really, really proud of them.

"I've never seen them all so nervous before we started, but they were all buzzing and so made up afterwards."

In their entirety, Saints Elite Cheerleaders have more than eighty dancers in their group with ages ranging from 5-25.

Showcasing their ability, they have taken their choreographed routines all over the country and have even been crowned regional champions.

Kerrie added: "On the coach on the way home, all the parents lined the streets to celebrate the girls with banners. It was like an Olympic welcoming."

An experience of a lifetime, the girls' performance will be able to streamed as part of Blue Peter's show on BBC IPlayer for the next month.
