SPOOKY season is officially upon us and with Halloween just around the corner, here are some of the best local patches to find the perfect pumpkin to carve.

Whether you're looking for ingredients for a hearty pumpkin soup or got your heart set on a carving idea this Halloween, pumpkin picking is always a popular activity for families this time of year.

The Star has rounded up some of the best pumpkin patches in St Helens and the surrounding areas so you can pick your own over half term.

Rainford's Christmas Trees

A popular site all year round - but even more so towards the end of the year - Rainford's Christmas Trees is a perfect place to pick some pumpkins, with a huge selection to choose from.

There is no booking system at the farm, but those who are fancying staying around to carve their pumpkins are advised to find a space quickly as the patch can get busy!

Located at Catchdale Moss Farm in Rainford, the patch is free entry and open 10am - 5pm.

Sandhill Strawberry Farm

This popular fruit picking patch is another great location for pumpkin picking in Rainhill.

Situated on Warrington Road, the patch is a year round berry picking hangout, which turns its focus on pumpkins come October.

A traditional farm, there is also fruit and pumpkins in their shop and the chance to sit and play on the farm tractor.

Sandhill is open from 10am - 6pm seven days a week.

Birchall's Pumpkin Patch

Formely Birchall's Farm Shop, this pumpkin patch has already been attracting many residents with their huge fields throughout October.

No bookings are required to pick, with the farm open 10am - 5pm on Monday to Friday, and 9am - 5pm at the weekend.

Dogs are welcome and guests can view the farm machinery as well as the Gruffalo Maze.

The site is situated on Reeds Lane, Rainford, WA11 7JP.

Kenyon Hall Farm

A little further down the road, Kenyon Hall Farm in Warrington is a vibrant patch with over 15,000 pumpkins grown this year.

With a huge outdoor and indoor selection, the farm boasts pumpkins of all shapes, sizes and colours as well as a lare, and well-stocked shop full of pumpkins and freshly-grown produce.

Tickets must be booked in advance at Kenyon Hall, and with limited availability throughout the rest of the month, residents are advsied to book now to avoid disappointment. 

Located at Winwick Lane, Croft, Warrington, tickets are £2 per person on entry.
