A YOUNG musician and producer from Newton-le-Willows has had an "overwhelming" reaction to the release of his latest EP, which hit No.1 on Beatport's garage and bassline chart.

Joe Hill, who goes by the stage name JOJO, put out 'No Gimmicks' last week, a five-track EP released on Wub Club Records - a Sheffield-based record label.

After producing for more than seven years - and playing music for years previous to this - Joe has been blown away with the reaction of his latest batch of tunes.

Explaining he "didn't even expect to chart", Joe said it was amazing to see his music go to the top of the Beatports chart - a respected music platform for electronic genres.

After teaming up with Wub Club, Joe's music and following has gone from strength to strength, with previous single 'Boss' reaching over 100,000 streams on Spotify.

In addition to this, the 23-year-old has amassed thousands of monthly listeners on streaming platforms, while notching some notable festival performances with the label.

Explaining his relationship with the label, Joe, who is a plasterer by trade, said: "The label is one I've looked up to for a while, and after reaching out with my previous tracks they chose to invest in me.

"They've really took me under their wing and mentored me with my music, and offered me some great shows and festivals to play."

Joe, who was winner of St Helens Got Talent in 2009 with his rock band Carnage, said he is excited for the future after the success of 'No Gimmicks'.

The producer added: "The reaction to the EP has been overwhelming, I've had loads of people messaging me and sending videos of them blasting the EP. It's been unreal."

"The past year has been a big step up working with Wub Club and working with artists I really look up to.

"Now, I'm just looking forward to playing more shows and releasing more tracks and trying to make it a full-time thing."
