A MAN charged in connection with an assault in a St Helens town centre bar in the early hours of Saturday morning has made a first court appearance.

Police say they received a report that a man had been assaulted in Empire Bar on Westfield Street at about 1.45am.

Patrols attended and arrested two men in the town centre.

On Sunday evening detectives confirmed two men had been charged in connection with the incident.

Robbie Bolton, of Luther Grove, Parr, St Helens was charged with grievous bodily harm with intent.

Bolton, 25, appeared at Wirral Magistrates' Court on Monday, October 11.

The case was sent to Liverpool Crown Court where Bolton is next due to appear on Monday, November 8.

He was remanded in custody until then.

Meanwhile, Jamie Roscoe, of Appleton Grove, Peasley Cross was charged with using threatening/abusive/insulting words/behaviour with intent to cause fear of/provoke unlawful violence.

Roscoe, 30, was released on conditional bail by police and is due to appear at Liverpool, Knowsley and St Helens Magistrates' Court on Monday, October 25.
