TWO men have been charged in connection with an assault in a St Helens town centre bar in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Police say they received a report that a man had been assaulted in Empire Bar on Westfield Street at about 1.45am.

Patrols attended and arrested two men in the town centre.

On Sunday evening detectives confirmed two men had been charged in connection with the incident.

Robbie Bolton, 25, of Luther Grove, Parr, St Helens has been charged with Section 18, grievous bodily harm with intent

He has been remanded in custody and will appear in Wirral Adult Remand Court tomorrow morning (Monday, October 11).

Jamie Roscoe, aged 30, of Appleton Grove, Peasley Cross, St Helens has been charged with using threatening/abusive/insulting words/behaviour with intent to cause fear of/provoke unlawful violence.

He has been released on conditional bail to appear at Liverpool Magistrates' Court on Monday, October 25.

In a statement Detective Inspector Leanne Hobin said: “Our enquiries continue into this incident, so if you witnessed it or have any information, please come forward.

"We’ll continue to take swift and positive action against all those we suspect are bringing harm into our communities.”
