THE devastated family of a "loving and generous" Merseyside man found dead in an alleyway has paid tribute as a murder investigation continues.

James Richards, 33, was found dead in the passage between Woodbine Street and Harebell Street in Kirkdale last Wednesday afternoon.

Four people have since been arrested on suspicion of murder as part of an ongoing police investigation.

In a statement, James' family said today: "A huge hole has been torn in our family. One of our precious ones has been cut down in his prime.

"Brave, loyal, loving and generous, James.

"For just 33 years he brightened our lives and occasionally had our hearts in our mouths, his loss has shattered us all.

"Rest gently our beautiful, bold boy."

James’ family have asked for privacy while they grieve for their loss.

Yesterday police investigating Mr Richards' death arrested a 38-year-old man from Liverpool on suspicion of murder. He has been taken into custody and is being questioned by police.

Three people (a 22-year-old man; a 32- year-old man and a 32-year-old woman) arrested on suspicion of murder last week have since been bailed pending further enquiries.

A Merseyside Police spokesperson said: "Extensive enquiries into the incident remain ongoing and we'd still like to hear from anyone with information, dashcam or CCTV.

"Please contact Merseyside Police social media desk via Twitter @MerPolCC or Facebook Merseyside Police Contact Centre with any information.

"You can also call 101 quoting reference 21000660162 or contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously, on 0800 555 111 or via their online form at: https://crimestoppers-uk.org/give-information/give-information.

"A scene remains in place in Kirkdale while our investigations continue and we would like to thank the local community for their ongoing patience while we carry out our enquiries."
