A SIX-YEAR-OLD boy completed the gruelling climb up Snowdon last month, replicating the family walk when his older sister was in remission from leukaemia.

Cooper Wright, from Newton-le-Willows, has "repeatedly asked" to do the climb for three years since the Wright family completed the challenge for CHICS in 2018.

CHICS, a children's cancer charity that provides families with support and guidance, is said to have "helped [the] family so much" when Cooper's sister Erin was diagnosed with leukaemia aged just ten.

Their special treatment spurred the family - including Erin who still had three weeks left of her cancer treatment - on to ascend the 1,085 metre Welsh mountain to raise funds and awareness for the charity, raising £850 in the process.

In keeping with the family tradition, Cooper was determined not only to complete the demanding climb on August 31, but also to raise funds for CHICS for their care of his sister.

In addition to the previous £850 raised, the six-year-old's five hour trek up the Pyg Track - one of the most rugged and challenging paths up Snowdon - raised £242 for CHICS, which he handed over to the charity on Sunday, September 19.

Cooper's mum, Katie, said: "Cooper is a quiet, shy, sensitive boy, but he's also determined and likes to do everything to the best of his ability.

"We did one of the hardest routes up Snowdon, but he was surprisingly okay - after a little wobble!

"It was brilliant. He was absolutely buzzing that he completed the walk and is super proud of himself."

Describing the exemplary work of CHICS, Katie explained: "They're just a lovely charity, they include the entire family in the process and you get to know them on a personal level.

"You can talk to them for hours if that's what's needed and we are just so grateful.

"I can't tell you how much of a difference they have made to our family."

With Erin thankfully "happy and healthy" after her illness, she also completed the climb along with Cooper, older brother Harley, and their mum, dad and grandpa.

After Cooper handed over the sponsor money to CHICS, the charity was said to be "very grateful" for all of the family's hard work and fundraising efforts, which helps to ensure they can continue their services for other families.
