YOUR new look St Helens Star is on the news stands this week – delivering a bigger, better and brighter newspaper for the community we love.

Over the past 18 months there has been a surge of interest in local news, with the pandemic driving readers to sources of trusted information.

Many also want to know more about the places and people where they live.

This has been reflected in the growing readership of the Star across our website and social media channels – and in print, where we’ve witnessed a rise in sales in shops and newsagents.

St Helens Star:

That is why we feel now is the time to invest in your local newspaper – by making some of the boldest changes the title has undergone in its 48-year history.

We’re creating a more expansive news section where we can tell and display the stories that matter to our readers.

From crime and court, to human interest and the latest goings on at the Town Hall, we’ll continue to have it covered.

We’ll also be launching a host of new features which portray the people, places and businesses that make St Helens such a vibrant and attractive place to live.

Our community editors and reporters will be chatting to your favourite pubs and restaurants and unearthing stories from the businesses battling back from the pandemic.

They will also be showcasing the best things to do locally and regionally, looking back on bygone times with a new nostalgia section and celebrating family life with picture specials, such as babies of the month.

St Helens Star:

We’ll also be continuing our weekly 8-page TV guide alongside the regular puzzler section, which have become firm favourites over the past 18 months.

And of course, we’ll continue to bring you the latest from Saints and the local sports scene, with rugby league writer Mike Critchley and columnists such as Saints great Paul Sculthorpe.

To coincide with the launch of the new look Star we’ll be increasing stocks in the shops and outlets across the borough.

To promote the new look Star our teams will be at various stores across the town on Thursday and Friday.
