With concerts permitted again since July 19, this rearranged gig was one of Haydock Park's biggest events in the last two years and it certainly lived up to the billing.

And he got straight into the swing with classic hit What's New Pussycat to get everyone singing along from the off.

He followed that up with another familiar tune, It's Not Unusual as the buzzing atmosphere continued.

St Helens Star:

Tom intertwined some of his old classics through the night, with some songs from his more recent works, including new album Surrounded By Time.

These included his cover version of Cat Stevens' PopStar, and Windmills of the Mind, the song from the Steve McQueen film The Thomas Crown Affair.

Tom then cranked the atmosphere back up again with a rendition of another old favourite, Sexbomb

This was followed by the Green Green Grass of Home as the packed crowd in front of the stage and in the Paddock sang along.

Other songs during the 90-minute concert included One More Cup of Coffee, Taking Reality Television Blues, I Won't Crumble With You If You Fall and Tower of Song.

St Helens Star:

There was still time for the expected highlight, Delilah to spark the audience into life dancing and singing along.

At 81 years of age, Sir Tom showed he still knows how to put on a show, his interaction with the crowd keeping spirits high throughout.

A rendition of Prince's Kiss was followed by I'm Growing Old and No Hole in my Head before Sir Tom rounded off an enjoyable show.

A balanced mix of old classics and newer hits, the concert sent the crowds back home from Haydock Park thoroughly entertained.
