THESE pictures show progress of the demolition works at a former distribution depot site.

The distribution centre, which was operated by Suttons since the 1950s, is being knocked down to make way for a housing development.

The main part of the 30-acre site was used as a storage and distribution centre.

The Star reported in 2018 when plans were approved for hundreds of homes to be built at the location.

Suttons Group, in partnership with St Helens Council, intends to build up to 352 homes.

A hybrid application, which also comprised of the demolition of the existing buildings, was unanimously approved by members of the St Helens Council planning committee.

It was said it is believed the site will make "valuable contribution" to the housing needs of St Helens on a large brownfield site.

It was added the site was effectively an "eyesore” for the community and had been "unable to attract long-term operators for several years".
