KRISTIAN Woolf acknowledges it would be a 'crucial loss' to the Saints team to have Jonny Lomax missing for a period.

The England international limped out of last night's 42-12 home win against Leigh Centurions in some discomfort and shaking his head in frustration as he exited the tunnel.

"He's copped something around the hamstring region," said Saints head coach Woolf.

"It was a funny one in terms of how it happened and him getting caught in an awkward position.

"At the moment we don't know quite how bad it is.

"Obviously we're going to hope for the best and we'll find out a little bit more in the next couple of days once we can get a scan and assess it properly."

Woolf said the likelihood is the stand-off will miss Monday's game against Warrington Wolves with it being such a short turnaround.

"He’s one of our best players and has been for a very long time. He’s a very crucial player for us and with his position as well and the influence he has on the team," said Woolf.

“Whether it’s one game, two games, or whatever it is, he’s obviously a loss.

“But it’s the sport sometimes. We lost our half back (Theo Fages) earlier in the year and we’ve certainly managed and continued to be able to play good footy and continued to be able to find ways to win and that’s what I will have to keep doing.”
