A COMPUTER repair man who “never gives up on a job” has scooped a regional award for service after impressing customers and judges alike.

Kolin Slater, from St Helens, launched Slater’s PC Repair eight years ago and has built up an impressive client list around the area.

After being nominated by one of his satisfied customers in the Prestige Awards 2020/21 he came out on top in the category for best computer repair service for Merseyside.

The Manchester and North West Prestige Awards 2020/21 celebrates small and medium-sized enterprises that have thrived in their local communities and been successful.

Over the past 12 months, 2,188 nominations were received for businesses and sole traders, with industry experts, readers and satisfied customers all recommending their favourite in each field.

Winners were chosen for their marketing and branding and business growth methods as well as customer experience and approach to new ideas.

Kolin attended the award ceremony at Nunsmere Hall in Northwich to pick up the trophy after a panel of judges declared him the winner.

The 48-year-old said: “I never give up on a job and my wife says that my stubborn streak works well for me.

“I once had a customer bring me their laptop that was folded in half, asking if I could fix it.

“I wasn’t able to fix it but I removed the hard drive and gave them a brand new laptop that worked perfectly with their old hard drive.

“I’ve spent ten days once on a job because I was so determined to see it through, where some people might give up and say they can’t help.”

During the pandemic, Kolin helped people who were vulnerable and shielding stay connected to the outside world via their computers and laptops.

Awards director, Andrew White, said: “It has been heart-warming to see local and independent businesses rally together in a tremendous show of community spirit.

“Many of these businesses have gone above and beyond to adapt to the current situation and continue to offer their services.

“We are pleased to celebrate those businesses and we look forward to seeing their future success.”
