HOMEOWNERS in St Helens are among some of the most content in the country with enquiries about moving house on the decline.

Whereas house sale enquiries across Merseyside have seen a 33 per cent increase over the past 12 months with the city of Liverpool seeing a 56 per cent rise in requests, St Helens has not followed the trend.

According to a survey conducted by We Buy Any Home, people living in St Helens have seen only a 17 per cent increase year on year rise and a 23 per cent decrease compared to enquiries in 2018.

Knowsley has similarly low figures with an 18 per cent increase in property enquiries over the past 12 months and a 30 per cent decrease since 2018.

The locations in England which have seen the biggest rise in house sale enquiries since 2020 are Tewkesbury in Gloucestershire, which is up by 1,100 per cent, followed by Cambridge with 375 per cent and Broxtowe in Nottinghamshire, which is up by 309 per cent.

Following Ribble Valley with the highest decrease of 53%, the areas experiencing the next most notable decrease in homeowners wanting to sell were South Hams in Devon (-50%) and Gedling, Nottinghamshire (-46%).

The top reason homeowners in England cited for looking at moving house was a desire to upsize and purchase a larger home with the second reason was the sale of a second home, which suggests many people focusing on cutting costs during the pandemic, and retirement accounted for 10 per cent of all enquiries.
