SIXTEEN celebrities from the world of showbiz and rugby league will be putting their best foot forward next month in a bid to win this year’s Lol Pennington Memorial Cup.

Ruskin Leisure Centre in Dentons Green will host the Barton’s Pickles Johnny Vegas Celeb Bowls event which will see members of the public take on some famous faces in a game of crown green bowling on Sunday, August 8.

The charity event was launched by comedian and actor Johnny Vegas in memory of his dad, Laurence ‘Lol’ Pennington, who died in 2017.

Potential competitors can make a bid in the Twitter auction on @StevePrescott1 Twitter account and stand a chance of taking on some of the stars of the silver screen as well as the sporting field.

Sky Sports rugby league commentator Barrie McDermott, St Helens RFC legend Louie McCarthy and State of Mind ambassador Danny Sculthorpe are already signed up and together with comedy actress Sian Gibson from Peter Kay’s Car Share bids have reached more than £1,400.

Johnny Vegas is also up for a game together with Tommy Makinson, who is currently serving a testimonial, Saints and women’s captain Jodie Cunningham and Australian import Joel Thompson.

England football international Conor Coady and actors Tim Healy and Adam Fogarty are also up for the challenge.

Anyone playing on the day will receive a set of bowls, thanks to Glassbond Moulding Compounds Limited and Taylors Bowls, signed by their celebrity and a t-shirt.

Martin Blondel, from the Steve Prescott Foundation, said “We would like to thank Johnny Vegas and Woolyback productions for once again supporting the SPF during these tough times.

“We can promise the general public that this will be a family fun filled day with plenty of entertainment for all.

“We have the fantastic Ultimate Party People and Ponts Fun Fair to entertain the children and the fantastic Ukulele Band will provide a carnival atmosphere whilst the bowls are in play.

“The after bowls party staged at Sticky Wicket from 5.30pm will have St Helens’ finest musical talent on show, the mercurial Jack Bennett and the phenomenal Marble Eyes.

“Back by popular demand is the World’s Best TV Presenter Hacker T Dog who will be doing a takeover of the Steve Prescott Foundation Facebook page.”

Stall pitches are available for £20 and bookings can be made by emailing info@steveprescottfoundation.co.uk or ringing 07971792859.
