THREE men reportedly ran off from the scene of a crash on the M62 where two women were injured inside a car. 

A Mercedes e-Class smashed into the central reservation of the M62 at Bowring Park, Knowsley this morning (Sunday, July 25) at about 6.15am.

Police say three men were seen running from the car towards the Rocket.

When officers from the North West Motorway Patrol Group (NWMPG) and Merseyside Police arrived they found two injured women, both aged 21 from Doncaster, in the car.

North West Ambulance Service and paramedics attended and the women were taken to hospital to be treated for their injuries.

Officers from Merseyside Police searched the area and two injured men, aged 30 from Birmingham and 21 from Leicester, were located nearby.

Both men were taken to hospital by ambulance and are being treated for their injuries.

None of the injuries sustained are life threatening.

Officers are still searching for the third man from the car as it is believed he has suffered injuries, the extent of those injuries is unknown. 

Police have appealed to anyone who may have seen him to contact them.

Roads Policing Sergeant Steve Smith, said: “We would like to speak to any drivers in the area who may have dashcam footage of the silver Mercedes, which was travelling along the M62 (citybound) when it collided with the central reservation between Bowring Park and the Rocket.

“Any footage or information could be vital in establishing what happened."

The motorway was closed Liverpool-bound following the incident and one lane of the M62 heading out of the city was closed while debris was removed.
