A POLICE investigation is underway after a fire broke out and spread to at least one neighbouring terraced property this afternoon.
The blaze took hold at the terraced house on Crossley Road, Thatto Heath shortly before 1pm on Saturday.
Firefighters and police officers were called out to the property, near to Thatto Heath Park and Master Woks Chippy.
Three fire crews spent two hours dealing with the fire, which spread to the roof space of the house and to at least one of the adjoining terraces, a Merseyside Fire and Rescue spokesperson said.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus went inside the houses to deal with the fire. The initial 999 calls suggested a person was inside the house where the fire broke out but it does not appear that anyone had to be rescue or is seriously harmed.
Residents told the Star that a window of a neighbouring property was smashed as people from nearby went inside to rescue a dog.
Firefighters have carried out an investigation and the scene has been handed over to police, with a cordon at the front of the terraced houses remaining in place.
No details of the suspected cause of the fire have been released at this stage.
