MOTORISTS in St Helens will be seeing improvements carried out on highways over the next few weeks as resurfacing work gets underway.
St Helens Borough Council’s highways programme for 2021/2022 will see £6million funding the network over the next 12 months to help support growth opportunities in the borough and the wider city region.
As part of the programme, a significant amount of the budget has been allocated to road resurfacing and reconstruction works in all wards to tackle defects like potholes, with work having already started or ready to begin in all areas.

In a statement Cllr Andy Bowden, St Helens Borough Council’s cabinet member for transport and environment, said: “As a local highways authority, responsible for more than 480 miles of adopted highway, we know residents and businesses want to see improvements made to our road network and we are committed to investing in this important asset.
“Despite a significant reduction in funding, compared to what was made available last year, the council continues to do all it can to make sure our road network is maintained to a high standard, not just for today but looking to the future.
“We are working to create safe and strong communities and support a strong, thriving and well-connected local economy.”
