HOLLYWOOD actor Martin Freeman has been out on location again filming in St Helens.

The cast and crew of the new six part BBC drama The Responder returned to Taylor Park today (Monday).

Freeman was spotted filming scenes beside a bench near the edge of the park's boating lake.

Park-goers were surprised to stumble across film crews this afternoon as they were out on an afternoon walk.

One said: "It was certainly a surprise to see the camera crews in the middle of the park. I looked over to the water's edge and we could see Martin Freeman clearly.

"It was brilliant to see such a big name on the doorstep. They were actually filming on a bench that looks out over the lake - it's one of the most beautiful spots in the park, so I'm not surprised they chose it as a location."

The Star reported last month how producers had used the park and addresses in the town, including Eccleston Park, for filming.

Freeman – who rose to fame in The Office and went on to star in films such as The Hobbit, Black Panther and series including Sherlock and Fargo – was pictured on set by Star readers.

The drama is written by ex-Merseyside Police officer Tony Schumacher, who spent time working on response in St Helens.

Freeman plays Chris, a crisis-stricken, morally compromised, unconventional urgent response officer tackling a series of night shifts on the beat in Liverpool.

Whilst trying to keep his head above water both personally and professionally, Chris is forced to take on a new rookie partner Rachel (Adelayo Adedayo).

Both soon discover that survival in this high pressure, night-time world will depend on them either helping or destroying eachother.
