POLICE have given an update after they executed two drugs warrants at addresses in St Helens town centre.

The warrants were carried out on the morning of Thursday, June 10, in response to community intelligence.

A 49 year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled Class A drug.

A Merseyside Police spokeswoman said the man has since been released under investigation pending further enquiries.

During a search of the property a sinister weapon made up of a blade and a long pole was seized.

Police highlighted the "dangerous weapon", on which a knife appeared to be attached to the pole via tape to create a spear-style implement. Officers released a picture of the bladed pole in a bedroom on Facebook.

Meanwhile, the search of the second property was "negative", the spokeswoman added.

Officers praised residents in the town centre for their support during the morning's operation on Thursday.
