A NEW wine bar is coming to St Helens town centre – to add another name to the increasing list of food and drink places that are planned or opening up.

The bar is being created on Barrow Street and is the latest venture by Eddie Dean and Victoria Zsigmond Dean, who own the Dean restaurant and Smokehouse by the Dean.

Scene by the Dean is set to launch later in the year on the corner of Barrow Street, with Claughton Street.

Planning permission was approved by St Helens Borough Council this week.

The application had requested permission to change the of use of a unit at 39 Barrow Street from financial and professional services to a drinking establishment.

Plans also included pavement seating area with installation of planters, heaters, canopy and window alterations.

In a statement announcing the planning permission, The Dean's bosses wrote: "We’ve had some obstacles getting this approved, but it’s finally got planning permission – and we can start development in the coming months.

"Barrow Street is about to get even better!

"We’re excited to bring Scene at The Dean to St Helens in the coming months.

"Our aim will be to develop a tranquil wine bar, that’ll allow you to enjoy a night-out, in a peaceful relaxing atmosphere.

"If you love The Dean, then you’ll love here."

The application, submitted to the council, said there would be five full-time employees at the premises.

The venue will add to the mix of independent bars, restaurants and businesses on Barrow Street as well as the increasing number of establishments due to open nearby, including the Imperial Food and Drink Quarter and Two Brothers coffee house.
