A ROAD has been closed after a sinkhole had opened on it.
Mercer Street in Newton-le-Willows has been closed off after the sinkhole appeared on Friday, June 4.
It opened on the road, to the back of Verona Kitchen & Bar.
The council has sent engineers to the site over the weekend.
It is believed the sinkhole may have been caused by a collapsed sewer.

A St Helens Council spokesman said: "One of our engineers is looking at this.
"It's possibly a collapsed sewer, in which case it will be passed onto United Utilities.
"The road has been closed."
