SAINTS want to see off-contract Lachlan Coote go round again – but they will give the influential full back the time needed to make his decision.

The 31-year-old Scottish international’s link-up play, smart pass selection and shrewd left-foot kicking game have been key components of Saints’ back-to-back Grand Final winning campaigns.

Coote’s creativity has been complementary to the whole team’s attack and has been appreciated by teammates, staff and supporters alike since coming in to fill the boots of Ben Barba ahead of the 2019 campaign.

St Helens Star:

However, the impact of Coote and his young family being 12,000 miles away from home in the middle of the Covid pandemic will inevitably have to be factored into the equation – hence the reason he will given time to decide on his future

Woolf said: “We would love Lachlan to stay – he has been a big part of this club for two years, going on his third.

“I don’t think it is any coincidence that with his influence on the team that the club has had success with him being here for two years in a row.

St Helens Star:

“He is a very good character and influence on everyone at the club - and he is obviously a high performer with what he does on the field as well.

“We would love Lachlan to stay – but it is up to him to talk about the things he has got to weigh up.

“But what everyone needs to understand is that it has been a difficult 12-18 months for everybody – particularly for people who are a long way from home.

“That certainly comes into the equation and needs to be considered when we are in these positions.

“We would more than love him to stay and are hopeful that he does, but he will certainly be given time because he is a bloke we all really respect.”
