OFFICERS are appealing for witnesses after a 13 year-old boy was assaulted in a park.

The 13 year-old was in Haresfinch Park between 7.45pm and 8pm on Sunday, February 28 when he was assaulted by a group of males, who are believed to have been armed with bats.

The teenager suffered a broken nose and bruising to his head.

The males, who are all believed to be teenagers, were dressed in dark clothing and had their faces covered.

It is believed a number of people were in the park at the time and may have witnessed the assault.

Two teenagers have voluntarily attended for interview in relation to the incident and enquiries remain ongoing.

Detective Inspector Leanne Hobin said: “This was a nasty assault on a teenage boy which resulted in him suffering a facial injury. It is believed a number of people in the park at the time and I would appeal to anyone who witnessed this assault or has any information to contact us as they may be able to assist our investigation.”
