VOTERS went to the polls on Thursday for the local elections in St Helens.
The election will see 17 councillors elected, one in each the 16 wards across the borough, with an extra seat in Earlestown being contested.
A total of 48 councillors make up St Helens Council, three each for the 16 wards.
However, two seats are vacant – one in the Windle ward and one in Earlestown.
Therefore, currently, a total of 46 councillors make up St Helens Council – 34 Labour; four Liberal Democrats; three Conservatives; three independents and two Greens.

St Helens Council says it expects the official count of results to start between midday and 1pm on Friday, and declarations to start coming in from the mid-afternoon.
The Star will have live rolling coverage online as results are announced.
Polls closed last night at 10pm.
