PEOPLE are invite to take part in a litter pick with a difference this Friday.

Not-for-profit organisation Planet Patrol is bringing its first monthly paddleboarding litter pick event to St Helens on Friday, May 7 at 9am at Carr Mill Dam.

Residents can try paddleboarding and do their bit to clean up the waterways.

For those who haven't paddleboarded before they will be shown all the basics before going on the water by a qualified instructor from Planet Patrol's clean up partners, Mountain Monkeys.

All equipment is provided so all people need to do is turn up ready to get stuck in.

The golden rule is that people record everything they collect in the Planet Patrol app.

This is to enable the type and brand of litter to be recorded to help solve the problem at the source and hold big polluters accountable.

"It gets people to think more about your own behaviour and go 'I'm going to talk to a friend about this'," said Liz Heard of Planet Patrol.

"We find it's a really good way of getting people to talk about the problem in a different way.

"Litter picking doesn't stop it, what we want to do is break that cycle and that's where the data comes in."

The organisation also does other activities during litter picks including canoeing and yoga.

Spaces for Friday's session are limited as group sizes are reduced due to coronavirus measures so people are asked to reserve their spot.
