POLICE have given an update on an investigation after they arrested a driver and a passenger of a BMW on on suspicion of dealing cannabis .

A passenger allegedly fled a BMW that was stopped by a police response team and ditched a bag of cannabis as he ran away.

Officers pulled over the blue BMW 1 Series on Rainford Road, Windle, shortly after midnight on Monday, May 3.

Police say the front seat passenger decided to make a run for it "clutching a bag leaving the scent of cannabis in his midst".

Officers were able to find the suspect, who police say discarded the "bag behind him in the hope it wouldn't be found". 

The drugs were later discovered.

The passenger, a 19-year-old man, from Rainford, was arrested on suspicion of possessing a Class B drug with intent to supply.

The driver of the car, a 27-year-old man, from Rainford, was also arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of a Class B drug and in connection with a series of other alleged offences, including having an expired driving licence, having no insurance to drive and failing the road side drugs test.

A Merseyside Police spokesman said both men have been released under investigation as enquiries continue.
