POLICE were called to Sherdley Park where around 50 youths had gathered and vodka bottles were being thrown.

Officers say bottles were tossed on to the pavement and one was hurled at a police car during the disturbance on Saturday evening (May 1).

At around 7.40pm police received reports that around 50 young people had gathered inside the park and that a number of them were throwing vodka bottles on the pavement.

As officers attended, a bottle was thrown at a police car before the youths left the area.

No-one was hurt in the incident, police said.

Community Policing Inspector Jon Smith said: "We are carrying out CCTV and witness enquiries following the violent behaviour displayed by a small number of young people on Saturday night.

"Throwing a glass bottle at another person or a vehicle could cause life-changing injuries or worse. It's reckless and damaging behaviour which harms others by bringing fear into our communities.

"Alongside the breach of Covid regulations, this incident could have left someone seriously injured or needing hospital treatment.

"If anyone was in the area of Marshalls Cross Road between 7.30pm and 8pm on Saturday, please get in touch with us using reference 857 of May 1 and we'll do the rest."
