A PUB undergoing a £500,000 renovation is looking forward to reopening after its makeover.

The Pied Bull, on High Street, Newton-le-Willows is set to relaunch under new management after being closed more than a year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The makeover has rejuvenated the pub inside and out, with it now featuring a spacious internal area where guests can drink and dine from brand new menus. Outside, the pub now boasts two spaces including a sun terrace and 'secret garden'.

The pub will reopen under new management, with Jade Carter and Nia Jones at the helm. Jade said to the Star: "It's very overwhelming to see so many exciting changes already. The pub has always had so much potential. After this investment by Punch, it is sure to be restored to its former glory. It is all very exciting.

"We can’t wait to open the pub in May when we will welcome guests both new and old. The local community has been very supportive throughout and we’re sure they will love their new and improved pub."

More than 20 people have been employed for kitchen and front of house roles and the pub has used the Ways To Work programme to help with recruitment.

Jade added: "We’re proud to be recruiting local people. Every single person we have interviewed has a story behind why they want to come and work here. It's very sentimental to them. It’s also been great to have people from the local area come and chat to share their stories of the pub as well. Lots of memories have been made here”.

The team are looking forward to seeing people come back together and safely reconnect at the pub.  They are also looking forward to the prospect of more 'normality' as coronavirus restrictions ease over the spring. They are hoping for a brighter future ahead.

Punch’s operations manager, Alex Felix-Thomas, added: "Everyone seems to have a real personal story connected to the pub, and it’s been fantastic to chat to people as they walk by and share fond memories. One local passing by stopped to say, ‘I've been coming to this pub for 40 years’. It holds a special place in many people’s heart, so we've got high expectations to meet."

"The Pied Bull is going to be the final piece to Newton-le-Willows. There are so many fantastic businesses here. As a collective, we will offer great Friday or Saturday night venues that people would usually travel to the city for. Now they have it all here on their doorstep.”
