COUNCIL candidates will be battling for seats across St Helens on May 6.

The candidates for the upcoming local elections, as well as the Liverpool City Region mayoral and police and crime commissioner elections, have been published.

A total of 48 councillors make up St Helens Council, three each for the 16 areas of the borough, known as wards.

However, two seats are vacant – one in the Windle ward and one in Earlestown.

Therefore, currently, a total of 46 councillors make up St Helens Council – 34 Labour; four Liberal Democrats; three Conservatives; three independents and two Greens.

At the election on May 6, there will be 17 contested seats overall across the 16 wards.
