A BARBER has expressed his delight ahead of reopening this Monday.

Dermot Costello at Desmond's Barber Shop on Greenfield Road, Dentons Green looking forward to being able to welcome back customers from April 12.

Under the coronavirus lockdown exit roadmap slaons and hairdressers can reopen from tomorrow, April 12 in an unwinding of restrictions which Prime Minister Boris Johnson says he hopes will be "irreversible".

The shop has been taking bookings online and is all ready for business again.

The business featured in the Star in 2019 as it celebrated 60 years since it was launched.

"I am just glad to be reopening, and I hope it is the last time," said Dermot.

"St Helens Council have been good helping everybody out with the grants and have sent us some things with signage on."

One of the lasting changes the business has seen due to the pandemic is the switch from a 'walk in' system to appointments.

The appointment system system was set up last year as customers are able to book a slot for a haircut.

This prevents the shop getting overcrowded and provides a simple method for people to book their time.

"We are still going with the appointment system," added Dermot.

"We are using Booksy which is good and you can choose which barber you want.

"That is one good thing to have come out from the pandemic, it has forced our hand into doing it and seems to have pushed us forward."

He adds the shop has seen some more amendments made to it and is set to offer a safe and welcoming environment as customers arrive for their much-needed post-lockdown haircuts.

"We are sticking to the having two chairs in the shop and have done a bit more work to it."
