FLORAL tributes with touching messages have been left outside the house where a man and woman were found dead on Easter Monday.

As reported yesterday, emergency services were called to an address on Mersey Street, off Newton Road, Parr at around 5.50pm to reports a man and woman in their 50s had been found inside.

They were confirmed as dead a short time later.

Officers are treating the deaths as "unexplained" as enquiries continue.

Bunches of flowers outside the front gate were left to "Shirley & Col". Messages said they would be "sadly missed".

The names of the people who died have yet to be formally released but their next of kin have been informed.

A significant police presence was at the scene on Tuesday and a police van remained there on Wednesday morning.

In a statement on Wednesday afternoon police said the tragic incident is not believed to be suspicious.

The statement read: "Following the unexplained deaths of a man and woman in St Helens on Monday (5 April), post mortems have been completed and the results withheld pending the results of further tests.

"However, we are not treating the incident as suspicious at this stage and would ask the media to respect the privacy of the families."

A Merseyside Police spokeswoman said: "We can confirm that emergency services were in St Helens following the unexplained deaths of two people found yesterday, Monday, April 5.

"At around 5.50pm, police and ambulance were called to a home on Mersey Street to a call reporting that a man and woman in their 50s had been found inside, following concerns for their safety.
