A DIVING education centre is set to launch, described as the first of its kind.

Palaemon Divers will launch once lockdown is lifted.

It is based in St Helens and Warrington and is for people who are looking to get into diving or improve their diving experience.

Leanne Clowes, director of Palaemon Divers, has also created a new venture, Scuba Escape.

Scuba Escape is the world’s only Scuba Escape experience and will be based in a Vivian Quarry in North Wales.

Leanne, from St Helens, and her business partner Clare Dutton, who owns Duttons Divers, came up with the idea as they wanted to look for something completely new to both the diving industry and the UK leisure and tourism industry.

They eventually settled on the idea of Scuba Escape.

Scuba Escape consists of six games which cover a range of scuba diving skills; such as utilising dive propulsion vehicles, perfecting buoyancy and using navigation to complete fun underwater tasks.

Leanne, 34, said: ‘‘The game themes include treasure hunts, stopping an underwater nuke from exploding, saving a princess, murder mystery and a zombie apocalypse.

‘‘All of the games are held at Vivian Quarry, which allows the participants to be locked inside the quarry grounds.

‘‘After each game the participants receive a decal for that game to stick inside their escape logbook.’’ Each month successful teams will be placed into a draw to receive a prize for each team member.

Each game has six participants and people can book as a group or individually.

There is also an option for dive centres to book for their members, and Scuba Escape can facilitate up to 24 divers for the weekend.

Scuba Escape offer packages of escapes, shore dives and boat dives for any divers wanting to make it a full break away.

Scuba Escape will be hosting a trial run on April 21 which will include a presentation of all six games, Q&A sessions, a plan for a game at Vivian Quarry, and a game brief and game undertaken. Lunch and refreshments will be provided.

Leanne said: ‘‘Scuba Escape is for those who are qualified as ‘open water scuba divers’ or above but people are able to complete courses through the dive school Palaemon or Duttons to allow them to get involved and experience an entire new world in the UK itself.
