CORONAVIRUS infection numbers continue to fall in St Helens
At its worst, in January, the average infection rate in the borough was more than 800 cases per 100,000 people, with almost 1,500 cases a week.
But after months of restrictions and the vaccination programme progressing, the Covid picture here is now a very different one.
The weekly infection rate across the region has been brought down to 46.5 cases per 100,000 people as of the week leading up to March 25.

While we are seeing significant decreases, a number of areas in the borough have almost no cases of coronavirus at all.
As of March 23, there are 11 neighbourhoods in St Helens that are noted as currently having “suppressed” the virus – this means there were just two or fewer confirmed cases.
Data is not shown for areas with fewer than three cases to protect individuals’ identities.
On Monday as the lockdown restrictions were eased slightly, Prime Minister Boris Johnson said relaxations will cause cases to increase again and stressed the need for "caution".
The areas in St Helens with fewer than three cases as of March 23 are:
- Eccleston Park
- Town Centre East and Fingerpost
- Broad Oak
- Rainhill North
- Rainhill South
- Bold and Clock Face
- Haydock East
- Windle and Dentons Green
- Rainford
- Billinge
- Garswood
