A PRIMARY SCHOOL has been forced to close its doors early ahead of the Easter break after more than five confirmed cases of coronavirus.

Legh Vale School in Haydock made the announcement to parents and on their website that they were set to close with immediate effect to carry out a 'deep clean'.

The statement read: "Following an Outbreak Management Meeting with Public Health due to 5 or more confirmed cases of Covid-19 being identified, Legh Vale School will be closed until after the Easter break to facilitate a deep clean.

"Remote learning will be available for pupils for the next 2 days.

"Public Health advice is that all pupils self isolate for 10 full days until Thursday, 8th April.

"Apologies for any inconvenience, we have to follow Public Health's advice in order to keep everyone in the community safe."

The website goes into further detail, outlining that on Monday, March 29, a pupil in the school's nursery tested positive for Covid-19 and that all nursery children will now need to isolate until Monday, April 5.

This follows on from another update on Sunday, March 28, which stated that a Year 5 pupil had tested positive for Covid-19 and that all Year 5 pupils would need to isolate until Tuesday, April 6.
