TRAIN services to from Ranford are still being disrupted after a train derailed and hit a bridge at Kirkby over the weekend.

Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service attended Kirkby Railway Station following the incident involving a train on Saturday.

Crews were alerted at 7.01pm and on scene at 7.05pm. Two fire engines are currently in attendance as well as the search and rescue appliance.

The incident involved one train which derailed and hit a bridge. Passengers were evacuated from the train and there are not believed to be any injuries.

The driver of the train was assisted from the train and assessed by paramedics from North West Ambulance Service.

Train services between Kirkby and Wigan Wallgate, taking in Rainford, are affected. A replacement bus service has been put in place and some services will be cancelled or terminated, or started, from Rainford.

A tweet from Northern says disruptions are expected to remain throughout today, Monday.

 

Northern said: "Due to a train derailment between Kirkby and Wigan Wallgate the line is blocked.

"Train services running to and from these stations will be cancelled or terminated at and started back from Rainford.

"Disruption is expected until 23:59 15/03".
