BURGLARS rummaged through the upstairs of a property and stole money while an 11-year-old boy was in the house.

Police are appealing for information following the aggravated burglary at an address on Wargrave Road, Newton-le-Willows.

At around 8.30pm on Saturday night (March 6) two burglars entered the upstairs of the property while most of the family were downstairs.

The burglars, described by police as "two males" made an untidy search and stole a quantity of cash before making their escape.

Police say an 11-year-old boy was in the upstairs of the property at the time.

He was not physically injured during the burglary, a spokeswoman added.

An investigation is underway and house-to-house and CCTV enquiries have been carried out in the local area.

Meanwhile, police say they also received a report of suspicious circumstances, involving suspects looking through a window on High Street, Newton-le-Willows on the same night.

Officers are keeping an open mind over whether the incidents are linked, a spokeswoman added.

Detective Inspector Leanne Hobin said: “We would appeal to anyone who was in the area around Wargrave Road at around 8.30pm on Saturday night or saw anyone or anything suspicious to contact us at they may have information which is vital to our investigation.

“I would also ask anyone who was in the area who may have mobile phone or dash cam footage to contact us as they may be able to assist with our enquiries."
