A 15-YEAR-OLD boy had his bike stolen by two men who claimed to be carrying a shotgun.

The teenager was riding his bike along Gamble Avenue, Windlehurst when he was approached by two unknown men who asked him for his bike.

It is reported that one of the men told the boy he had a shotgun inside a bag he was carrying over his shoulder, although no weapon was seen.

The offenders then stole the bike – a blue and white TREK 7300 – and made off in the direction of City Road.

The bike had been given to the youngster by his grandad as a Christmas present.

The robbery happened at about 7.15pm on Tuesday.

The men are described as white, in their 30s, with St Helens accents.

One man is said to be of medium build in all dark clothing, and one of slim build wearing a blue hoody.

A CCTV and forensic investigation is underway.

Detective Inspector Leanne Hobin said: "This was no doubt an intimidating incident for a teenage boy who was travelling alone on his bike, which was a Christmas gift from his granddad.

"We're keen to find those responsible and get the bike back to the boy as soon as possible. If you were in the Gamble Avenue area around 7.15pm, please check CCTV and dashcam footage and contact us with any information."
