POLICE are currently at train stations in St Helens after reports of a casualty on the tracks.
British Transport Police were called to the line shortly before 12.30pm today, Monday, March 1.
Paramedics also attended, however a person was confirmed dead at the scene.
Reports say that emergency services are currently near St Helens Junction station.
British Transport Police spokesman said: "Officers are working to identify the deceased and inform their next of kin.
"This incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
Rail lines between Liverpool Lime Street and Newton-le-Willows have been closed while emergency services carry out their investigation, National Rail enquiries has confirmed.
Trains between Lime Street and Manchester, via Eccles, may be cancelled or diverted until approximately 4pm.
Northern customers are advised that buses have been requested to run between Huyton and Manchester Oxford Road.
