FANS will be looking forward to tomorrow’s full Super League fixture announcement with some anticipation…especially now that there has been a roadmap set out including the prospect of some fans after May 17.

Obviously, plenty still has to fall into place for that plan to come into fruition, but fingers crossed we can start seeing a limited and then full access for fans.

So there will be a couple of fixtures fans will be keen to pick out….the first game after May 17 and then, of course, the first Wigan game.

Supporters missed last year’s memorable Grand Final against the Warriors – with the game played behind closed doors at Hull’s KCOM Stadium.

After more than a year away from the terraces those fans will have new songs to chant at the Warriors - and undoubtedly someone must pen a ditty to reflect Welsby's winner.

That first Super League meeting of the two rivals has understandably been moved away from its traditional Good Friday slot to give the best possible chance to get the fans.

Saints will instead play Hull KR in the round 2 Mose Masoe round.

So, it will interesting to see where Saints v Wigan is going to fall on the calendar.

And it will be a tough balancing act for the planners as they are effectively going to have to try and replace the traditional blockbuster opener and the big Easter weekend in the schedule.

The Wigan clash needs to be a big one – especially given it is replacing the ‘full house’ Good Friday on the calendar, but ideally at a time in which the maximum number of fans can attend.

It will also be interesting to see who gets to host that first derby as last year’s Saints home Good Friday was obviously canned during the first tough lockdown.

Super League does have a challenge this year – as all the great plans that they come up with will be intertwined with the real-world scenarios that are beyond their control.

The clubs, too, have a challenge in trying to satisfy as many fans as possible.

Saints have in place refund procedures for members for all the games that are played behind closed doors – but obviously there are some games – Wigan, Warrington, Leeds – where you want to be there in person and don't want a refund.

But flip that over, the TV paymasters will not want a slow-burn start to the Super League competition with all of the big head-to-heads loaded after June.

But you can see from the Magic announcement – particularly the return to Newcastle – fans are eager to be excited again.

Hopefully the fixtures are delivered in a way that can satisfy all.
