THATTO Heath born comedian and actor Johnny Vegas is currently out and about in St Helens helping to deliver food parcels to those in need.

Since the beginning of lockdown back in March, the community has witnessed Thatto Heath’s own Johnny, whose real name is Michael Pennington, out and about delivering food to those in need, assisting charities and showing his support for our town.

Today in his latest effort, he has been helping Business for Youth in Newton-le-Willows to parcel up and deliver 90 parcels of food to those in need.

The proud Sintelliner has always been full of praise for his home, but said last year to the Star that lending a hand during people’s time of need has helped to “heal” him.

Talking to the Star at the time, he said: "“I love coming home to see family and friends but I’ve also wanted to keep busy to stop me going over tough things in my life, particularly losing my mum just before Christmas and my dad a couple of years before that.

"Nowhere else could I help out and people say, ‘I remember your mum from bingo’, or ‘I used to work with your dad’, it wasn’t about that at first but I love that, it’s really helped me grieve because I was angry before and now I like hearing about them and doing my bit to help.

“It’s great because when I’m home I’m not Johnny Vegas, I’m Mike Pennington from Thatto Heath, just helping out like anyone else and that’s why I love St Helens."
