TWO people have been arrested after a car was "rammed" and two women were reportedly assaulted.

Police were called to Belvedere Road, Newton-le-Willows near to the junction of Billington Avenue on Saturday, February 6, at about 8.10pm.

This followed reports of a crash involving two vehicles, the first of which was allegedly rammed by the second, a Mitsubishi Shogun.

Damage was caused to both vehicles and two women were reportedly assaulted.

Police say they sustained non life-threatening injuries, which required one of the women to attend hospital for treatment.

Following enquiries, a man and a woman were detained.

A 32-year-old man from Wigan and a 29-year-old woman from Wigan have been arrested on suspicion of Section 18 wounding and affray.

They have both been released on conditional bail.

House-to-house, CCTV and forensic enquiries continue, police say.

Detective Inspector Sue Hinds said: "While two people remain under investigation, we're still keen to speak to anyone who witnessed this incident or has any information.

"Thankfully, both woman were not seriously injured but left extremely distressed, as will anyone in the area who saw what happened.

“CCTV, dashcam and any other accounts could be vital so tell us anything you know and we’ll keep taking action to deal with those responsible and put them before the courts."
