A PUB window was smashed by a beer keg during an attempted burglary.

A man smashed a window at the Commercial Hotel on Station Road, Rainhill with a keg, police say.

It is understood the offender made off in the direction of Rainhill railway station.

The incident happened at around 5.20am on Monday, January 25.

It is believed damage was also caused to the Victoria pub on Warrington Road also.

A Merseyside Police spokeswoman said: "It was reported an unknown offender had smashed a window with a keg, before making off on foot in the direction of Rainhill train station.
