RESIDENTS are able to subscribe to this year’s garden waste collection service, due to relaunch on Monday, March 1.

The 40-week subscription will run until Friday, December 3, providing 20 collections at a cost of £37, equating to just £1.85 per fortnightly collection.

Residents are urged to subscribe from now to ensure they will receive the maximum number of collections.

Rather than straddling two years with a winter break as before, the subscription will operate continuously within one year, making it a simpler service for residents.

Grass cuttings, leaves, flowers, plants, weeds, privet or hedge clippings, small branches and twigs can all go in your green garden waste bin.

Councillor Andy Bowden, St Helens Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Transport and Environment, said: “After unavoidable disruption last year from COVID-19, we decided to take the opportunity to relaunch our garden waste collection service in a way that’s simpler for residents.

“This year and from now on we will operate continually from early spring to the end of autumn, with the winter forming a natural break in between subscriptions.”

Last year saw more than 27,000 households subscribe, and a total of 5,726 tonnes of garden waste collected and recycled despite disruption to the service – the equivalent of more than 15 iconic Dream sculptures at 373 tonnes each.
